normal problems for ftm people(?)

I’ve noticed a few problems that I have in common with other ftm people and possibly might be common:

-The whole bathroom thing
-Being called Pinocchio ( as in, “I want to be a real boy!” )
-Passing, but looking almost three years younger than your actual age

Yeah, I’m making music video using a song by Bim. If you don’t know who Bim is, I looked them up on myspace. Really amazing band. Listen to them.
Anyways, I’ve been doing well.
Other than a few things that I don’t think I’ll mention, but still.

Talking about gender study/politics is a great way to come out.

Anyways. Let me see…

The hormones will help catch you up to your “real” age soon enough, trust me.

If anyone ever called me Pinnochio, I’d deck them. I haven’t had that issue at all, actually. Well, I’ll take that back. At the beginning there were some folks who made stupid comments. I cut them out of my life. It’s your choice who you let stay in your life. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty about that.

Bathrooms – I’ve read a lot recently on FTM’s blogs about how the bathroom is such a big deal and how you should and should not act in a men’s room. Most of it is bunk.

Trust me, I get the concern. Bottom line is in the attitude. You *belong* there. As soon as you own it, you’ll be fine.

I had some issues with bathrooms at first…but after I had used the guy’s room a few times it became no big deal. However it IS scary at first, especially if you aren’t sure of how well you pass.

I’ve gotten comments like that…mostly from my parents. If anyone else had said something like that I would have dropped them from my life. As is I can’t cut my parents out of my life at this point…but if they haven’t stopped by the time I get out of college I’ll be leaving them behind. My suggestion: Don’t keep unsupportive people in your life. We have enough crap to deal with, so get rid of them.

I can definitely relate to looking too young though. Soon enough that’ll change, but for now it’s obnoxious. -_-

Only rules of the mens room are to choose the urinal at the ends. Make it so you don’t have to be so close to the other guys. If there’s one space left and you’ll be next to two guys, either wait or use a stall. At the urinal, just look forward, no eye contact. Be in and out. Don’t stay and chat..
